Marsha P. Johnson

Marsha P. Johnson was a Black, disabled, transgender woman who played a pivotal role in starting the 1969 Stonewall Riots which of course led to the Gay Liberation Movement and fight for LGBTQ rights and equality. She also cofounded Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) to help NY’s trans youth of color- many who also had a disability. All this while living with HIV, mental illness, being subjected to psych treatments without her consent, and working in survival sex. Sadly, in 1992 her body was found in the Hudson River. She was murdered- despite police ruling her death a suicide. #LGBTQHistory #QTPOCHistory #QTPOCDisabledHistory #MarshaPJohnson #Intersectionality
