Emma HarukaIwao is a queer Japanese woman and renowned computer scientist. She studied computer science at the University of Tsukuba and received the Dean's Award for Excellence before starting graduate work in computing. Her thesis was on high-performance computer systems. Emma worked as a software engineer for Panasonic, GREE and Red Hat before joining Google as a Cloud Developer Advocate. In 2019 Emma broke the world record by calculating the world's most accurate value of pi (π) to 31.4 trillion digits using a program running on more than 25 machines for 121 days. She shattered the previous record of 22 trillion digits.
